Red Bumps Around A Healing Tattoo

So everything is going good, you’ve got a sweet new tattoo and a smile on your face. Then BAM! everything changes. You wake up one morning and now there are red bumps around your tattoo. How could this happen? Whats going on? Everything was going great before! No need to worry, this kind of thing happens and its an easy fix that should get you back to normal in a couple of days.

So when you have red bumps forming around a tattoo its because of one thing. Too thick of an ointment for your skin. The bumps begin to form when your skin cannot breathe and properly slough off dead skin cells due to the ointment being too thick.

The easiest way to get rid of these bumps is to switch to a lighter brand of ointment while healing your tattoo. Ointments like A&D can be too thick to use for long periods of time. Lots of artists use it the first day in order to stop the flow of blood and plasma from the freshly inked tattoo, but longer than that is usually not recommended for healing.

Ointments like Aquaphor, Tattoo Goo, Recovery, and H2Ocean are some of the best stuff to use on tattoos due to them being a little thinner and highly moisturizing without choking out your skin. You may also switch to a non-scented hypoallergenic lotion after the tattoo begins to shed.
